During the late 1940s, Asher co-produced and directed the low-budget boxing melodrama “Leather Gloves.” In the early 1960s, Asher was drawn to the television medium, directing episodes of Big Town and Racket Squad. He also directed the hit television series I Love Lucy, which he stayed with for five years.
In addition to his role as a board member, Asher is also an active participant in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Massachusetts. He was recently appointed to the MassVentures Board of Directors by Governor Patrick. Asher was born in Santa Monica, California. His parents are Elizabeth Montgomery and William Asher. He grew up in the Beverly Hills area and attended the El Rodeo School and Beverly Hills High School. He went on to graduate from University High School in 1982. to build a guitar body. Later, he took the unfinished guitar to a guitar repair shop in Los Angeles. There, he met Jeff Lunsford, who offered him an apprenticeship at his guitar shop.
Asher’s parents divorced when he was a young boy. He moved with his mother to Los Angeles when he was just eleven years old. After his father died, he began working in the mailroom at Universal, where his mother worked as the publicist for Judy Garland. At age 19, Asher joined the army as a photographer. The Army’s decision to send him away from his home at a young age sparked a fire in his mother’s alcoholism.
Asher’s next step was launching Monkey Knife Fight, a popular fantasy sports service. While it’s still relatively new, it has already become the third-largest DFS company in North America. With the help of his team, Monkey Knife Fight has been able to attract thousands of players in the past year.
